The Clickshop Software is a very stable program that was designed from the beginning to be easy to install and use. Understanding how your server works and where to place files is important to successfully installing Clickshop. You must have a domain name and have the ability to run cgi programs.

After submitting your evaluation request and selecting the binary for your server, you can run our install wizard which takes about 10 minutes to install. Using our browser based installation wizard is easy once you have the files upload and permissions set correctly.

The biggest problem we hear about is people over complicating our shopping cart system. Try and keep it simple and follow the online directions and manuals.

Making Sure You Have A Domain Name

In order to use Clickshop you must have your own domain name or the use of a domain name. If you have a homepage which is an off shoot of your ISP's domain name then you cannot install Clickshop using this type of an account. Our software generates a key using a fully qualified domain name.

A domain name means that you have for example "http://www.yourdomain.com" or "http://store.yourdomain.net".

An example of a homepage without a domain name "http://www.your-isp.com/~username".

Making Sure You Can Run Cgi Programs

Make sure that your Internet Service Provider allows you to run cgi programs. Clickshop is a compiled "C" program and is not a set of perl scripts. It is important that you have access to your cgi-bin directory and can change permissions on your own. Usually cgi programs are kept in a "cgi-bin" directory or "scripts directory.

All you need to know here is that your ISP allows you to run cgi programs. The installation does not usually involve any help from your ISP.

Your Internet Service Provider

Your ISP or Web Hosting does not usually have to get involved in the installation of Clickshop. But you may need to contact them to find information about your server's hardware and software. If your ISP has any questions, please feel free to have them call us on our support line.

Requesting an Evaluation Key

Go to our online form to request a domain key. Follow the online instructions and enter your domain name exactly how it appears via the web. We ask for additional information and we will keep this confidential. Your key will be emailed to you within 48 hours of your request. In most cases it will come within 24 hours of the time you submitted your request.

Downloading The Right Software

After you know the server hardware and software for your ISP then go to our download shop and download the correct binary for your server. Each server platform is compiled and will only work on that platform, so make sure you get the right one. If you are not sure have your support person at you ISP help you select the proper binary.

Understanding Your Domain Structure

When you connect to your website via ftp you will noticed there is a directory structure which your website is in. Your "index.html" would be your webroot directory and have full access to the world and the internet. Some ISP's give you a home directory which is not accessible from the web and you link into the webroot using ftp links.

This home directory is ideal for installing Clickshop. It must be in a secure location that is not accessible from the web for security reasons. Make a directory here in the home directory with a file name something like Clickshop. It does not matter what you call this directory as you will be asked the location when you run the install wizard.

Uploading files to your website is done using an "ftp" program which stands for "file transfer protocol". Upload the correct whole archive as one file to your server. If you have problems unzipping on your server then you might want to unzip the archive on your computer and transfer files that way. Be careful to get the directory structure in tack.

Uploading Our Software

Once you have uploaded the files to your server you must unarchive or unzip them in the directory you have installed Clickshop in. You will be left with a directory called "global" and a series of files. One file the "tame" or "tame.exe" is the actual binary and must be moved to your cgi-bin directory.

Unarchiving Software On Your Server

Once you have uploaded the files to your server you must unarchive or unzip them in the directory you have installed Clickshop in. You will be left with a directory called "global" and a series of files. One file the "tame" or "tame.exe" is the actual binary and must be moved to your cgi-bin directory.

Understanding Permissions

In order for the tame binary to work it must have permission to do so. After you have moved the tame binary to your cgi-bin make sure it is executable. On Unix you would use the "chmod 755" command. On NT you would give it "full control". Contact your support staff for more information on permissions.

Using The Installation Wizard

Clickshop comes with a installation wizard that is run from your browser after you have installed the files on your server and made sure the binary is executable. When you run the install wizard you will be asked for the location of the tameroot directory. This is the server path not the url to where you upload Clickshop software to.

Use the following as an example "http://www.yourdomain.com/your-cgi-bin/tame-binary/!install.tam" to access the binary.

Follow the online instructions to install the software.
